Police: Bethune-Cookman professor tried to meet teen for sex

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police said they have arrested a Bethune-Cookman University professor after he tried to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex on Thursday.

Bethune-Cookman professor Brian Jansen, 44, was arrested and booked into the Volusia County jail on Thursday. He has since bonded out of jail.

Police said the investigation began when Jansen and an undercover officer started communicating through online chatting. The undercover officer was posing as a 14-year-old girl, according to police.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jansen eventually asked to meet what he thought was the 14-year-old girl to have sex. He was taken into custody at an unknown meeting location in Daytona Beach.

Jansen is a professor of athletics at Bethune-Cookman University. He told police he has been a professor for many years. Bethune-Cookman University officials have not responded to a request for comment.

Jansen has been charged with traveling to lure a child, using a computer to lure a child and using a two-way device to commit a felony.
