Crews detonate two suspicious items at early voting site

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Orange County bomb squad had to detonate two suspicious items at an early voting location in Winter Park Saturday afternoon.

Police said the first suspicious item, a cooler with wires sticking out, was discovered around noon outside the Winter Park library on E. New England Avenue.

Officials said the cooler was filled with small electronic devices and one item that could not be immediately identified. However, all of the items in the cooler were determined to not be a threat, according to officials.

The second suspicious item was a bag that was quickly determined to be filled with trash, according to officials.

Both incidents prompted an evacuation of the library and brought early voting to a stop. Dozens of residents who were lined up for early voting had to be relocated to safe area while the bomb squad investigated. Early voting has since resumed at the library.

Orange County Supervisor of Elections, Bill Cowles, went to the library after learning of the first incident.
