POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County K-9 deputy “Ace”, who was involved in a fatal deputy-involved shooting on Aug. 6, returns home.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Rushing Road on Friday afternoon as deputies attempted to arrest 27-year-old Angel Bowers.
The sheriff’s office said Bowers was wanted on an arrest warrant after missing a court hearing related to child sex charges.
Investigators said Bowers opened fire during the encounter, shooting at three PCSO deputies and striking K-9 Ace.
Deputies returned fire, and Bowers was killed.
Ace was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he required surgery to amputate one of his legs.
In a Facebook post, PCSO shows a healthy and happy Ace leaving the hospital.
