Pump patrol: October price climb could see relief

ORLANDO, Fla. — On the heels of a spike in oil prices, the cost of gas in Florida rose another 7 cents over the past week, according to AAA.

Since Oct. 6, the state’s average for a gallon of regular unleaded was up 23 cents as of Monday.

“Drivers faced another round of rising gas prices last week, as retail prices at the pump continued to adjust to the big jump in oil prices, which occurred more than a week ago,” AAA’s Mark Jenkins said.

Jenkins said oil prices initially reacted to OPEC’s decision to cut oil output by 2 million barrels per day.

But better news at the service station is on the horizon, at least in the short term.

“Fortunately, oil prices took a step back last week, which should ease upward pressure at the pump,” Jenkins said.

On Monday, Florida drivers will pay an average of $3.40 per gallon — or about $51 to fill up a 15-gallon tank.

Albeit a chunk of change, it’s still a savings of over $22 compared to what they shelled out in mid-June, when faced with a record high of $4.89 per gallon.
