POLK COUNTY, Fla.,None — A puppy in Polk County is fighting to stay alive after someone treated him like trash.
The puppy, named Lt. Dan, weighs a little more than a pound.
He was rescued last Monday after a man walking by a Dumpster in Bartow heard a strange noise. When he looked inside, he found the dog in a white plastic bag.
The pooch was emaciated, dehydrated and barely alive.
"It's definitely the most blatant disregard for life,” said Amanda Mcelvoy, of Polk Pits Rescue. "You didn't care. You threw him away like he was trash."
The veterinarian said Lt. Dan has an enormous uphill battle ahead, but if he can make it through this week, he will survive
