Body of trapped worker recovered at Lake County construction site

LADY LAKE, Fla. —

4 a.m. Update:

Fire officials say they’ve recovered the body of a worker who became trapped in a hole Wednesday afternoon at a Lady Lake construction site.

The construction accident happened around 4:30 p.m. along Highway 441 in Lady Lake.

Rescue teams worked into the night in an attempt to rescue the victim, but were unable to save the worker, according to Lake County Fire Rescue.

“On behalf of Lake County, we offer our condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them during this time,” said Chief James Dickerson.

The Lady Lake Police Department is investigating the incident, according to Dickerson.

Crews are working to rescue a worker who was buried in a cave-in at a Lady Lake construction site, police said.

The cave-in happened sometime Wednesday evening at the construction site near U.S. 27/441.

Lady Lake Deputy Police Chief Jason Brough said rescue crews have been unable to reach the worker, and that heavy equipment is on its way to assist in the recovery efforts.

Northbound traffic is being diverted to County Road 466, Brough said.
