ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The family of a pregnant woman police said was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend, who then went on to allegedly kill a police lieutenant, spoke with the state attorney Thursday about her decision not to pursue the death penalty.
Prosecutors will instead seek life without parole for Markeith Loyd.

Loyd is accused of fatally shooting Sade Dixon in December, and Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton in January.
Dixon was gunned down by Loyd outside her parents' home and her brother was injured in the shooting while trying to protect her, police said.
On Wednesday night, when Channel 9 learned Ayala would be making the announcement, Sade Dixon’s family said they wanted to hear the reasoning behind Ayala’s decision before making any type of statement.
Ayala said in her news conference that some victims’ families will agree with the decision, but some might not.
Ayala said she spoke to Lt. Debra Clayton’s husband about the decision.
The Dixon family spoke to Ayala about her decision Thursday.
