ORLANDO, Fla. — Community leaders, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and volunteers will gather at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida on Sept. 15 for a Day of Purpose volunteer event to support families facing food insecurity.
The event will take place at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida facility, located at 411 Mercy Drive in Orlando. Remarks and the proclamation presentation are scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m., with volunteer sorting and packing activities beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The effort addresses a regional need where nearly 650,000 people in Central Florida experience hunger, including more than 178,000 children, according to an event announcement.
The event will highlight the impact of VyStar Credit Union’s Good Starts Here Food Drive, which gathered donations throughout August for local hunger relief efforts. The gathering is part of VyStar’s fifth annual celebration of volunteerism and community partnership.
Volunteers participating in the event will work alongside community partners to sort and pack the collected food donations. As part of the proceedings, the City of Orlando will issue a proclamation recognizing the date as “Good is everywhere Day.”
