Melbourne woman killed, child injured in I-95 rollover crash

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the driver overcorrected her steering while attempting to change lanes

FHP Fatal Ormond Beach A Melbourne woman died and a child was injured in a rollover crash on I-95 in Ormond Beach on Saturday morning.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A 38-year-old Melbourne woman died and a 9-year-old girl was injured in a rollover crash Saturday morning on I-95 in Ormond Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:43 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 271, south of U.S. 1 in Volusia County.

Troopers said the woman was driving a Toyota Scion tC north in the outside lane when she changed lanes into the center lane. A witness told investigators the driver then overcorrected to the right.

The vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned in a wooded area, FHP said.

The driver was taken to AdventHealth Daytona Beach, where she was pronounced dead. The 9-year-old passenger, also from Melbourne, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

There were no roadblocks reported in the area Saturday morning.

The crash remains under investigation.
