The commuter rail system is set to begin construction on the 12-mile, roughly $42 million project in December, with opening set in late 2023, FDOT spokesman Tim Freed told Orlando Business Journal.

The station along Old New York Avenue will be 3.6 miles from downtown DeLand and is expected to be the last piece of the route needed prior to FDOT handing full responsibilities to the five local government partners in 2024.
