Man shot, killed in home invasion near Winter Park, killers at large, deputies say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A man has died after he was shot in a targeted home invasion Friday night, according to deputies in Seminole County.

Deputies were called to Woodcrest Drive around 8:15 p.m. after a reported home invasion.

Once inside the home, deputies found Jerimy Thomas, 44, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim’s wife told deputies that multiple invaders wearing masks entered the home through the garage and demanded money.

Thomas was shot after he struggled with one of the assailants, deputies said.

Thomas was taken to a hospital where he died Saturday morning, deputies said.

Deputies said the assailants ran from the home and it was not immediately known how they made their escape from the area.

Deputies said both victims were uncooperative at the scene and did not want to press charges.

Detectives said they do not believe this was a random act, and found evidence of drug activity in the home as a result of a search warrant.
