Sanford commissioners set to approve first hotel in downtown area

SANFORD, Fla. — The pandemic is not slowing down the growth of Sanford.

There are several new developments in the works that could transform the city over the next five years.

Next up, the city commission is set to approve the first-ever hotel in the downtown area.

If the city approves the plans by a developer, a new 51-room hotel and 32 town houses will fill an empty lot in the downtown area.

Business owners said it will bring a much-needed boost to downtown businesses.

The city commission will have a second reading of the hotel and town houses on Monday. The historic preservation board will also have to approve the look and design of the project, so that part may change.
