VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County has temporarily closed several county-maintained boat ramps along the St. Johns River and Intracoastal Waterway because of high water and unsafe conditions.

Closures and expected reopening

Heavy rainfall earlier this week raised water levels along the St. Johns River, where ramps are expected to remain closed for an extended period. Flooded parking areas and submerged debris make launching and retrieving boats unsafe.

Along the Intracoastal Waterway, king tides are flooding ramps, docks and nearby parking areas. Those ramps are expected to remain closed through late next week, when the current king tide cycle is forecast to end.

A ramp that appears accessible at low tide may flood again as the tide rises. Closures remain in effect even when water temporarily recedes.

Boating safety and restrictions

Boaters on the St. Johns River and connected waterways should use caution and follow posted restrictions, including idle-speed, no-wake zones established by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Reducing wakes protects shorelines, properties and docks. Before activities on the Intracoastal Waterway, check local tide predictions and changing conditions.

Monitoring and Updates

Volusia County Parks and Recreation staff are monitoring water levels, ramp conditions and structural stability. Facilities will reopen only after water recedes and staff determine they are safe. Residents and visitors should obey posted closures and avoid submerged ramps and docks.
