ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida state senator is calling on Orange County leaders to temporarily halt the approval of new data centers.
Democratic State Sen. Carlos Guillermo Smith outlined the request in a letter to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and county commissioners.
Smith said data centers can put a strain on local water and energy resources.
He said a moratorium would give Orange County time to assess the potential local impacts before allowing additional data center development.
