SUMTER, Fla. — The valve-replacement work began at 9 p.m. and caused low water pressure in the affected commercial and residential area, according to the Little Sumter Service Area water system.

The notice affects properties in and around the Spanish Plaines, County Crossings and Oaks Professional Plaza areas. Businesses and apartment residents were notified in writing, and the notice was published in The Villages Daily Sun.

Customers should boil water used for drinking, cooking or making ice once service is restored. Water may still be used without boiling for bathing, sanitation and other household or commercial purposes.

The notice is expected to remain in place for about two days while water system operators complete bacteriological testing. It will be lifted after tests confirm the water is safe.
