Motorcyclist killed in hit and run crash, driver arrested for DUI, troopers say

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a Kissimmee man was killed by a drunk driver in Sumter County.

The crash happened Friday night around 7:25 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 171.

Troopers said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on SR-44 and attempted to change lane and hit a Suzuki motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

The motorcycle overturned and the rider was ejected, troopers said.

According to a new release, the driver of the SUV left the scene and was later located by Sumter County

Sheriff’s Deputies, a few miles from the crash at SR-44 and Morse Boulevard.

The 51-year-old motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the SUV, Lloyd Douglas Walters, 59, was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death, DUI manslaughter and not having a valid driver’s license.

Walters was booked into the Sumter County Jail.
