VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two suspected bank robbers are in jail, and Daytona Beach police said it’s all because of a day at the beach.
Daniel Jackson, 27, and Jason Centeno, 20, are accused of robbing a bank in Iowa two weeks ago and then escaping to Daytona Beach, police said.
"When the pair came to Daytona Beach, their car got stuck in the sand," said Capt. Tammy Marris, with Volusia County Beach Safety Patrol.
The pair got stuck in the sand on Saturday by International Speedway Boulevard. Beach safety officers said they always run a tag before assisting someone. When the suspects got a hit off their tag for the robberies, that's when the suspects were arrested.
“It's the world's most famous beach. It's very popular and everybody comes to Daytona Beach even the bad guys,” Marris said.
The men are at the Volusia County Jail waiting to be sent back to Iowa to face charges related to the bank robbery, officials said.
According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, the department is the largest law enforcement agency in the state.
It includes six divisions and several bureaus, all working together with local, state and federal agencies and the private sector to keep Iowa a safe places.
