TAVARES, Fla. — The Tavares Police Department is investigating after officers said a 26-year-old man was shot and killed outside an apartment early Sunday morning.
Tavares police said officers responded to the Caroline Court apartments in the 1000 block of Caroline Street around 2:20 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a man had been shot.
Police said officers found De’Angelo Donta McKnight, 26, of Leesburg, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
According to the Tavares Police Department, officers, Lake County EMS and Tavares Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures before McKnight was taken to AdventHealth Waterman, where he died.
Tavares police said preliminary information indicates McKnight was standing outside the front door of a residence when a vehicle entered the apartment complex.
