Teen shot while pumping gas near Orlando fairgrounds

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County deputies said they are trying to find four people who drove into a convenience store parking lot and shot a teenager filling his car with gas.

The shooting happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rightway Citgo food store on Colonial Drive near Mercy Drive, not long after a large gathering was ending at the fairgrounds up the road.

Deputies said the 18-year-old victim was pumping gas when he heard the gunfire and tried to take cover. He may not have immediately known he was shot because he tried to drive away, deputies said.

"As he started to leave, he crashed into the back side of the gas station," said Deputy Mark Conner of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "Our victim was hit with gunshot wounds, but we don't know where at or how many times he was hit."

Authorities said the victim was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.

"The story we have from him is that he was at the gas pump talking to a friend when a burgundy F150 single-cab truck pulled up. There were two black females and two black males inside the vehicle. The next thing he heard, there were shots being fired," said Conner.

Investigators said they were talking to the victim at the hospital in hopes of learning more about the incident.

Deputies said they have no suspects in custody and are trying to access the surveillance video from the gas station.

The teenager's name was not released.
