Three arrested in connection to gun show thefts

Three men are now under arrest in connection with an elaborate theft at an Orlando gun show, and police are looking for more.

Orlando police spent time Friday at an apartment complex talking to residents in hopes of gleaning information that would lead them to the stolen guns or suspected thieves.

Police passed out fliers and spoke with residents at the Windsor Cove Apartments.

"We want this community to remain safe, and we're asking that the public give us, just help us in our efforts to keep this community safe," OPD Sgt. Jacqueline Thomas said.

Police said staying safe means finding the people who broke into the Central Florida Fairgrounds show July 5 and  in just 32 seconds stole 24 guns.

Police said they have received tips that some of those responsible for the thefts could have ties to the Windsor Cove complex and might possibly have brought guns there.

Pastor Jake Stovall said he has joined the effort to find the guns and make his community safer.

"We want the guns off the street. They made a mistake, so let's fix it," Stovall said. "You will not get in any trouble, we just want the guns, that's it."

Police said Friday's efforts brought them valuable information.

They said tips have led to the arrests of Sonny Thorton, 19, Deshawn Sims, 19, and Quantavius Singleton, 22.

Stovall praised OPD's decision to approach residents. He said he saw police and residents begin to connect. He said he hopes the connections continue to grow.
