LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A hole developed in the deck of the Haines Creek Bridge in Leesburg on Thursday, forcing officials to restrict traffic to a single lane.
The bridge carries vehicles along County Road 44 and is currently undergoing an emergency inspection.
Lake County Public Works crews initially attempted to repair a pothole at the site on Wednesday evening before the damage expanded into a hole in the deck by Thursday morning.
Traffic is currently restricted to one lane while the bridge is under inspection for repair work.
Flaggers are stationed at the site to direct alternating traffic through the open lane. officials warned that while U.S. Highway 441 and State Road 19 are available as alternate routes, using them will add significant travel time to trips.
