Trees crash into 2 Ocala homes as more severe storms threaten area

OCALA, Fla. — Severe weather damaged two Ocala homes Saturday, bringing down trees and power lines and prompting multiple emergency responses from Ocala Fire Rescue.

Firefighters were first called around 11:53 a.m. to the 3100 block of SE Eighth Street after a large tree cracked and fell onto a home, taking power lines down with it.

Crews from Engines 2 and 5, Rescue 2, Squad 7, Battalion Chief 22 and a safety officer responded to the scene. Firefighters found extensive damage to the residence, with the tree crashing through the roof and breaking trusses, compromising the home’s structural integrity.

The damage extended from the kitchen and living room into a bedroom, according to Ocala Fire Rescue. No injuries were reported.

Minutes later, firefighters responded to another weather-related emergency in the 3700 block of E. Fort King Street.

A tree from a neighboring property fell onto a fence and the roof of a nearby home. Engines 1 and 5, Rescue 5, Squad 7 and Battalion Chief 22 responded. No injuries were reported in that incident, either.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville is forecasting another round of strong to isolated severe storms for the Ocala area Saturday afternoon and evening, with storms possible between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Ocala Fire Rescue is urging residents to stay indoors and adjust their plans as needed while the threat continues.
