CENTRAL FLA. — Tropical Storm Gonzalo is still bringing gusty winds to the Cabo Verde islands, while Tropical Storm Fay is weakening in the eastern Atlantic.
The 5 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Gonzalo had winds of 50 mph.
Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Cabo Verde islands, where tropical storm conditions will continue into Friday night.
Gonzalo is expected to remain a tropical storm, then begin to slowly weaken on Saturday and become a remnant low by Sunday.
The storm is moving northward and will pass near the northeastern Cabo Verde islands.
Gonzalo is expected to parallel the west coast of Africa this weekend.
The storm will also produce 1 to 3 inches of rainfall over the Cabo Verde islands, with additional heavy rainfall likely in western Africa.
Gonzalo formed on Thursday evening just off the coast of Africa. It is the seventh-named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
In the open Atlantic, Tropical Storm Fay has begun to weaken in the open Atlantic.
The 5 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center had decreased winds to 50 mph.
The system is expected to continue to weaken through the weekend.
Fay is moving west-southwest and is expected to slowly turn southwest.
The storm is anticipated to remain out to sea in the open Atlantic and will likely be a remnant low by early next week.
Fay formed early Sunday morning. It became a remnant low on Tuesday and reorganized on Wednesday.
It is the sixth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
Neither system will impact Florida or the United States.
