Two dead after shooting in Ocala retirement community

OCALA, Fla. — Deputies said two people are dead following a shooting Thursday inside the On Top of the World retirement community near Ocala.

June Jackson, 61, was found shot on her neighbor’s lawn and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies said the suspected shooter, Clifton Erhardt, 51, was also dead.

Erhardt was not seen leaving the home on Southwest 93rd Place after the shooting, leading detectives to believe he was still inside.

The bomb squad’s robot made entry into home, and deputies discovered Erhardt’s body.

Detectives are still working to determine if he shot himself.

Investigators said Erhardt and Jackson were dating.

"What happened at On Top of the World today is truly a tragedy," said Sheriff Chris Blair. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of these two individuals and with the On Top of the World community.”
