Pedestrians hit, killed trying to cross road in Cocoa Beach

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — Police said they are investigating after a man and woman were hit and killed by a pickup truck while trying to cross a road in Cocoa Beach Saturday night.

The victims were attempting to cross North Atlantic Avenue at Shepard Drive shortly before 10:30 p.m., police said.

According to investigators, the pedestrians were hit by a pickup truck driven by 33-year-old Robert Coffman. The man was rushed to Cape Canaveral Hospital and the woman was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center. Police said the victims died at the hospital. Coffman was not injured in the crash.

Officials have not released the names of the pedestrians. Police said the crash remains under investigation and at this point, no charges have been filed.
