ORLANDO, Fla. — The family of Tyre Sampson says they are one step closer to change.

The Ride Safety bill, named after the teen who died, passed its third and final Senate committee hearing on Tuesday.

Sampson fell from the Orlando FreeFall at ICON Park last month.

Changes have already been made to ICON Park. About a month ago, the ride itself was finally taken down. While the future of what will be built at the park is uncertain, the boy’s father said he won’t rest without justice.

“No child should have to sign up at an amusement park to die,” his father Yarnell Sampson said from Missouri. “That’s not part of the sign-up rules.”

The Tyre Sampson Act passed unanimously in its third Senate committee hearing. It would require more oversight over ride adjustments, signage and training at smaller amusement parks such as ICON Park.

“This is a bill that’s good for the industry, family and customers,” Sen. Geraldine Thompson said.

The Senate Bill, and it’s House companion are both now headed for floor votes.
