UCF terminates Theta Chi housing contract after police respond to house party

ORLANDO, Fla. — A University of Central Florida fraternity’s contract has been terminated after a house party violated terms involving alcohol, fire safety and property.

UCF police responded to a fire alarm at the Theta Chi home on Nov. 19, where they found a bicycle lock on the front door, preventing people from getting in the home.

Officers said people were passed out and intoxicated throughout the home, and at least one person was treated at a hospital.

They said it didn’t appear measures were taken to prevent underage drinking.

The house, which has been active with fraternity members since 2009, is one of four in Greek Park that’s owned by the university.

The house is under a lease agreement with UCF Housing and Residence Life, which stated that "Any major violation, or three (3) or more minor violations within any lease year, committed by chapter members, of the terms and conditions of this lease agreement, 'The Golden Rule,' the 'Community Living Guide' and/or the Housing Rules and Regulations, which in landlord's sole discretion demonstrates a 'lack of institutional control by nationals, housecorp and/or chapter."

The 35 men living in the house must move out by the end of the semester, which is Dec. 16.
