Universal announces the permanent closure of this original Islands of Adventure attraction

ORLANDO, Fla. — Poseidon’s Fury at Universal Islands of Adventure will close next month after almost 24 years, the Universal Orlando Resort said Tuesday.

The special effects stage show based on the ancient ruins of the Temple of Poseidon opened in the theme park’s The Lost Continent land in May 1999, when the park opened.

The live show, which features fire, laser and water special effects, will permanently close May 10. The last day of shows is May 9.

A Universal spokeswoman said the park is preparing for “exciting new experiences.”

The live show uses four types of lasers and more than 200 flame effects. Its water effects include mist screens, cannons and mortars.

Beginning May 10, “The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade land will “undergo an extended closure to make way for future show enhancements,” the spokeswoman said.
