VOLUISA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County officials and fire rescue leadership broke ground Thursday morning on a new fire station in Daytona Beach designed to enhance emergency response and training.
The new Fire Station 15 will be located at 1159 Red John Road.
The more than 12,000-square-foot facility will replace the current Station 15, which is presently located within the Volusia County Fire Training Center.
The project represents a move toward providing dedicated operational space and improved living quarters for crews serving unincorporated Volusia County and the Daytona Beach area.
The facility will span more than 12,000 square feet and include dedicated living quarters such as bunk rooms and a day room.
The design also features bays for emergency vehicles and operational space intended for a full-service fire rescue station. Officials selected the Red John Road location to improve geographic coverage for surrounding neighborhoods and provide efficient response times to major roadways.
In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical services, Station 15 houses the Volusia County Hazardous Materials Response Team. This specialized unit provides hazardous materials services to the entire county.
The move to a standalone facility allows the station to maintain these services while vacating its current space at the Volusia County Fire Training Center.
By moving the active fire station out of the training center, the county intends to expand training programs that support various agencies. Officials said the expanded capacity at the hub is expected to attract fire service professionals from across the state and the nation. This expansion is designed to strengthen the county’s role as a regional center for fire service training.
