DELTONA, Fla. — A 4-year-old girl and a woman were hospitalized Saturday after a man told deputies his gun accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it inside a Deltona home, according to preliminary information from the scene.
The shooting was reported at a home on Boxelder Street.
Investigators said one round was fired, striking the child in the chest and arm before also hitting the man’s wife in the leg.
Both victims were conscious and alert when Volusia County deputies arrived. Deputies provided emergency trauma care, applying tourniquets to both victims and a chest seal to the child before EMS crews took over treatment.
The 4-year-old was airlifted by Air One to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The woman was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.
The investigation remains active, and no additional information was immediately available.
