DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Anglers can compete for prizes while fishing with local charter captains during the inaugural Daytona Beach Fishing Rodeo, running Nov. 1-30.
The monthlong tournament will recognize the longest verified redfish, snook and sheepshead in Adult and Junior divisions. There is no additional entry fee, but anglers must book a trip at a participating charter captain’s standard rate.
The Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau announced the event on Thursday to highlight local fishing opportunities and boost business for charter captains during a traditionally slower season.
How to compete
Book directly with a participating charter captain. During the trip, the captain will measure and photograph eligible catches, then submit the entries online.
All catches must comply with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulations and tournament rules.
What anglers can win
The longest verified catch in each species category will earn:
- Adult Division: A Daytona Beach fishing getaway, including a three-night stay at a participating hotel and a charter fishing trip for a return visit.
- Junior Division: A new rod and reel, a tackle package from Southern States Fishin’ & Huntin’ Magazine and a free fishing trip with a paying adult.
The tournament gives anglers of different ages and experience levels a chance to compete while supporting local businesses, said bureau Executive Director Lori Campbell Baker.
“The Daytona Beach Fishing Rodeo gives visitors another reason to get out on the water while supporting the local charter captains who help make fishing such an important part of our destination,” Baker said.
Participating charter captains and official tournament rules are listed on the convention bureau’s website.
