DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — It’s like winning the Super Bowl.

Those who know Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young best describe the 42-year-old father of two as a man shaped by his strong ties to his family and faith.

The South Florida native has been with the department 19 years and went to college in Central Florida before quickly moving up the ranks.

Young said he sees his biggest challenges as chief as maintaining the peace and avoiding the problems that have erupted recently in other communities.
