Investigators say the driver of a red pickup truck, later identified as Billy Davis, made a left turn onto railroad tracks at the intersection and starting heading southbound on the tracks, toward a northbound CSX freight train with two conductors aboard.
Investigators said the conductors did everything possible to stop, but it was too late. The impact carried the pickup about 500 feet, according to investigators.
Davis, a DeLand resident, died at the scene of the crash. There were no other injuries.
