Person pointing gun at deputy causes SWAT standoff in Port Orange, sheriff says

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — A person is in custody after creating an armed standoff with deputies Thursday, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the standoff occurred in the area of Southfork Court and Southampton Drive in Port Orange.

Officials said the person pointed a weapon at a Volusia County deputy and then barricaded themselves inside of a home.

Several Volusia County law enforcement groups were called into the area to assist during the standoff including SWAT, Volusia County Sheriff’s helicopter, bomb squad, drone team and negotiators.

Deputies said school buses were also rerouted to avoid the area.

Officials announced around 3:30 p.m. that a “subject was in custody” but have not released more details about the person.
