VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Subtropical Storm Nicole is leaving many people anxious in Central Florida about flooding and coastal damage.
The dunes washed away during the last storm and buildings along the beach are very vulnerable.
Nicole is expected to pound the coast this week and has people in the Daytona Beach Shores area very worried.
“If we lose anything else you can see we got about a foot to go on this – a foot of dune moves back, we’ve already lost this, was 20-plus feet high, another 30 feet out here and it kept going,” said Volusia County resident Shea Lopez.
The new storm system developing offshore is bringing more beach erosion concerns.
Residents say the timing could not be worse.
Volusia County leaders said they plan to release more information Monday.
For now, they just want people to stay off the beaches.
