ORLANDO, Fla. — Gas prices have not risen following Hurricane Isaias, despite disruptions to oil production in the Gulf.
Several offshore oil rigs temporarily paused operations as the storm moved through the region, halting production of more than 1 million barrels of oil. Production has not yet returned to normal.
Channel 9 spoke with energy expert Andrew Lipow of Lipow Oil Associates, who said the storm could also delay oil tankers transporting supplies.
“The expectation is that tankers might be delayed by 2-3 days. There’s certainly enough inventory ... to make it through that kind of delay. We’ve done it before,” Lipow said.
As of this morning, those disruptions have not led to an increase in oil or gas prices.
Lipow said existing fuel inventories should be enough to help offset potential shipping delays of a few days, limiting the immediate impact on consumers.
However, with Gulf oil production still recovering, energy markets will continue to be watched for any changes that could affect prices at the pump.
