WINTER PARK, Fla. — Winter Park leaders are considering possible budget cuts as they prepare for the potential impact of a major property tax cut.
The city could lose $10 million in revenue during the first two years if Florida voters approve the proposed property tax changes.
Possible cost-saving measures include freezing or phasing out some city positions, reducing public pool hours and switching to digital notifications for bills.
“We’ve actually been looking at doing this early in preparation for future cuts,” Winter Park City Manager Randy Knight said. “So we were targeting anywhere between $200,000 to $600,000 in this upcoming year of savings.”
The city’s budget is already balanced for the current fiscal year. Leaders are expected to vote on the recommendations next month.
