WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for Winter Springs’ eastern service area after a power surge shut down water pumps early Thursday, causing a loss of water pressure.
City officials said power has been restored and Water Treatment Plant No. 1 is operational. The city will work with Duke Energy to determine what caused the surge.
Which areas are affected?
The city described the affected area as extending from the southern city limits north to Lake Jesup, and from eastern Shore Road to State Road 417 and the eastern city limits.
Residents should check the city’s map to determine whether their property is included. The Dovera service area, including Amberly Place, is excluded.
Boil tap water for one minute
Affected residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth. Bottled water is another option.
Officials emphasized that clear water does not necessarily mean it is safe during a boil water notice. Residents in the affected area should follow the notice regardless of the water’s appearance.
The city said intermittent water service and discolored water are possible. Running a tap until the water clears does not replace the need to boil it.
When will the notice be lifted?
The notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and bacteriological testing confirms the water is safe to drink, officials said.
Residents with questions can call Winter Springs Utilities at 407-327-1800 or the after-hours service number at 407-327-2669.
