Woman who investigators say left 4-year-old boy to die in hot car to be sentenced

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando woman who, investigators said, left a 4-year-old boy to die in a hot car is set to be sentenced.

Investigators said Mariah Butler left Logan Starling in a van parked outside a school in 2018.

He died after his body temperature reached 108 degrees.

Butler was originally charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, but she pleaded guilty to neglect of a child.

Last year, prosecutors and Butler’s attorney agreed to a plea deal, which would have meant probation only.

A judge accepted it at first but then rejected it.

The process was then put on hold because of the pandemic.

The woman is set to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
