Wrong-way driver causes I-95 crash, troopers say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were hurt in a head-on crash along Interstate 95 in Volusia County early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers told Eyewitness News the collision happened because a man was driving the wrong way along the interstate.

The Titusville man, 28, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes near mile marker 254 in Edgewater, when he struck another car, FHP said.

That northbound driver, a 70-year-old woman from Vero Beach, was critically hurt in the crash, according to troopers.

The wrong-way driver suffered serious injuries.

Both were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment.

Troopers said it is “unknown” as to why the man was driving the wrong way and the crash remains under investigation.
