MASSIVE GATOR: Man Lands Record-Setting, 14-Foot Alligator RAW INTERVIEW: Man Describes Alligator Capture

Tres Ammerman caught the massive alligator Sunday night in Lake Washington in Brevard County. He said he used a harpoon, a rope and a small boat to reel in the huge reptile. It took three people more than two hours to catch the alligator and dock their boat.

The 14-foot, 3 1/2-inch male alligator weighed 654 pounds. A Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission wildlife biologist says alligators over 14 feet long are rare in Florida.

After hunting alligators for seven seasons, he said he was blown away by his catch which set a new state record in length.

"It was just ridiculous. I don't have the words to say what I felt like. It was just remarkable," said Ammerman.

Ammerman plans to skin the alligator and sell it, instead of hanging it on his wall like these others he's caught.
