Earl K. Wood back in race for tax collector, will run for 12th term

Earl K. Wood made it official, he is running for his 12th term as tax collector.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Longtime Orange County Tax Collector Earl K. Wood has had a change of mind and decided to for a 12th term.

The 95-year-old announced earlier this year he was going to retire, but then said he would run again, if former Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty entered the race. Crotty announced he would run, and Wood, just before the deadline for filing, announced he was back in the race.

Crotty has now decided not to run.

"I want to maintain the integrity of that office ... I'm only 95-years-old, I'm going to go to 105," said Wood.

Wood's assistant, Kelly Goodwin, withdrew from the race Friday.

Wood was first elected tax collector in 1964, and has served nearly 48 years in office.

His salary is more than $150,000 a year.
