Truth Test: New Joe Biden ad high on promise, low on details

ORLANDO, Fla. — In the largest ad-buy for any presidential candidate, Joe Biden's team is spending $280 million across 15 states, including Florida.

The first of the new ads is an introduction that’s high on promise, but low on details.

The ad starts with a voice-over.

"This is our moment to build the new American economy."

It then makes its first promise.

"When we spend taxpayers' money, we should use it to buy American products."

If you like the sound of that, you’re not alone. But Biden has plans for where that money will be spent.

“It’s time to help small businesses. We will purchase clean energy technologies.”

UCF Political Science Professor Dr. John Hanley points out, after COVID-19, the money for those things might not be there.

"What is the availability of federal spending going to be? What will the bond markets tolerate?"

The ad leaves those questions open.

Overall, we rate this ad half-true. While it articulates a vision, it’s thin on the details.
