APOPKA, Fla.,None — This April, Rock Springs Ridge Golf Club will be home to 36 holes of chain-clanking fun when two new 18-hole disc golf courses will open just in time for the spring season.
Located in Apopka, Fla., Rock Springs Ridge Golf Club is home to 18 holes of magnificent golf known for its extreme changes in topography, oak lined fairways, strategic bunkering and enormous greens that challenge golfers of all abilities. Beginning in April, Rock Springs Ridge will also be home to not one but two 18-hole disc golf courses as well.
Disc Golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of balls and clubs, players use a disc to complete holes in the fewest number of strokes (throws). Disc golf play begins by throwing a disc from a designated tee area and ends when a player lands his or her disc in an elevated metal basket.
On April 2, Rock Springs Ridge will open its 18-hole Executive disc golf course, where players can choose to rent a golf cart if walking isn't desired. Then, on April 30, the 18-hole Championship disc golf course will be opened as well.
While a round of disc golf only requires one disc per player, many who regularly enjoy the game carry a quiver of discs for various throws they may encounter on the course including a long distance driver, fairway driver, hook, slice, and a putter.
Disc golf is an active, social sport that is played by people of all ages - from children to seniors. The club's pro shop will have a variety of discs available for sale or rental and players can test those discs out on the club's driving and practice range.
There will be a small fee to play disc golf and players will check-in at the pro shop where they will receive a scorecard and a course map with basic guidelines for play.
Once open, the disc golf courses will be open from 7:00am to dark, except during winter weekdays when it will be open 10:00am to dark.
