South Orange County Home Destroyed In Fire

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — A fire destroyed a south Orange County home Saturday evening. Fire crews are working to determine what caused the fire at the home on Charles E. Limpus Road shortly before 6:00 p.m.

Eyewitnesses say the flames ripped two large holes in the roof and destroyed everything on the second floor.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, officials say they faced several challenges. The house is on a dirt road, which makes it difficult for fire trucks to get close enough to the home. Additionally, the closest fire hydrant was more than 2,000 feet away, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

Battalion Chief Charles Smith of Orange County Fire Rescue said they had to bring in additional resources to fight the fire. OCFR brought in two tanker trucks and they were able to put out the flames nearly four hours later.

Friends say two women who live in the house were sleeping when the fire broke out. One of the women told firefighters that they were lucky to wake up and smell the smoke because there wasn’t a working smoke detector in the house. They occupants were able to get out, and firefighters managed to rescue two cats and a dog from the house.

Unfortunately, officials say the house was destroyed and the occupants won’t be able to return home.
