Train Hits Car After Orlando Lady Gaga Concert

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — A man is recovering in the hospital Saturday morning after his car was hit by a train in downtown Orlando Friday night. The crash happened while a huge crowd was leaving the Amway Center after the Lady Gaga concert.

The gold sedan sat crushed on the railroad tracks across South Street for more than an hour early Saturday morning. The car came face to face with a nearly one mile long CSX train as thousands of people dispersed from the concert at Amway.

Orlando police say the car stopped on the tracks in bumper to bumper traffic just before midnight Friday. When the train made its way towards the car, the railroad gates come down and a man sitting in the passenger's seat got out. Police told WFTV he ran to the driver's side to help a woman escape.

Officials say the woman made it out safely, but the train then hit the car, pushing it into the man who had just helped her. The man was rushed the hospital and is expected to survive.

The train remained stopped on the tracks for hours Saturday morning. Crews worked to clean up the wreck and CSX workers walked the entire length of the train to inspect for any damage.

Around 2:00am, the car had been towed away and the workers allowed the train to continue on it's way.
