HOUSTON — Two people were found dead in an apartment after a neighbor had reported a foul smell in Houston, Texas.
Houston Police Department said, according to KTRK, that two people were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide on Saturday.
Officers were called out to an apartment complex near Beltway 8 and the Southwest Freeway, according to KHOU.
Houston Police Department said that a neighbor called for a welfare check around 2 p.m. Saturday because of the smell coming from the unit, according to KHOU.
The neighbor also reportedly noticed that mail was piling up outside the unit for some time, Houston Police Department said, according to KTRK. Police also reportedly said the two adults were dating.
Their identities have not been released. According to KRIV, part of the reason that their identities have not been released is due to the state of decomposition of the bodies.
Investigators say the cause of death appeared to be gunshot wounds, according to KRIV.
It is not clear how long the bodies have been in the apartment, according to KHOU.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
