FLAMINGO, Fla. — No injuries were reported and a suspect is in custody after an active shooter situation closed down a portion of Everglades National Park on Sunday night, prompting authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for residents of Flamingo, Florida.

Park spokeswoman Allyson Gantt told the Sun-Sentinel that a park visitor called rangers to complain about domestic violence occurring at the park, and as rangers spoke with the suspect, he shot at them and fled.
The manhunt lasted roughly one hour.
In an 8:15 p.m. tweet, park officials confirmed that the suspect is a 33-year-old white male, but no further information was immediately available.

The park’s main road was closed to visitor traffic for public safety, and local law enforcement is being assisted by federal and state agencies in coordinating the response.
Everglades National Park is a 1.5-million-acre wetlands preserve on Florida’s southern tip, encompassing portions of Miami-Dade, Monroe and Collier counties. Flamingo is the park’s southernmost headquarters.
