Alabama man accused of shooting dog in neck with crossbow

An Alabama man is accused of shooting a dog through the neck with a crossbow earlier this month, authorities said.

Ralph Lynn Woods, of Jasper, was arrested Saturday and charged with a felony count of cruelty to a dog, AL.com reported.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, Woods was found by deputies hiding under a mattress at an area residence.

The dog was rescued by the Walker County Humane Society on Nov. 3, WBMA reported. The dog, who survived, did not suffer any damage to its vital organs, the television station reported.

According to the sheriff’s office, Woods had been avoiding authorities since a warrant was issued on Nov. 9, AL.com reported. Woods was awaiting a jury trial for a felony theft charge. Woods had been accused of stealing a black utility trailer in December 2019, according to the website.
