BATON ROUGE, La. — An 8-month-old baby was found alive after being abandoned in a field in Baton Rouge, authorities said.
Baton Rouge Fire Department officials told WAFB that the child’s mother had arrived at the fire station Tuesday, experiencing a medical issue. As she was being treated, she mentioned that she had a baby, who was not present with her at the fire station.
A search-and-rescue team was formed and the mother was able to lead authorities to the area where she had abandoned her baby, WAFB reported. The baby was found on Wednesday and suffered no obvious signs of trauma, according to authorities.

The baby was taken to a hospital for further evaluation, a spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Fire Department told WAFB.
No charges are pending at this time, but an investigation is ongoing, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
